- Granite - an igneous rock of
visile crystalline formation and texture primarily composed of feldspar and quartz
mica. It is usually whitish or gray with a speckled appearance caused by dark
crystal. Granite is the most abundant "exposed" rock found on earth.
Being extremely scratch-resistant and a hard stone, this is an excellent choice for a
countertop. It is available in polished and matte finishes.
- Marble - a crystalline rock is
a compact variety of metamorphosed limestone, primarily composed of calcite (calcium
carbonate), dolomite or a combination of both. Acid causes marble to deteriorate
easily. Due to the softness of this stone, marble is not recommended as good
selection for countertops. It is considered a high maintenance stone. It is
available in polished and matte finishes.
- Limestone - a common type of
sedimentary rock mainly consisting of calcite. The consolidation of seashells is
what forms the many varieties of this stone. It carries the same precautions
as marble though it has some similarity to granite. it is more likely to stain than
marble.
- Travertine - a type of sedimentary
rock, formed through the accumulation of calcite from hot springs.
- Slate - is a dense, fine grained,
fissile (easily splits) rock, formed from the metamorphism of shale, clay, quartz, or
igneous rock. Various minerals and accessory minerals make up this type of rock and
that is why it has a rustic look.
